05 - 2 teaspoons unsalted butter
06 - 2 cups chopped apples (try Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
07 - 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

08 - 1/4 cup icing sugar
09 - 8 oz soft cream cheese

→ Putting It All Together & Frying

10 - Store-bought pie dough or homemade pastry
11 - An egg, whisked (for brushing)
12 - Frying oil (use canola or vegetable)
13 - Sprinkle on powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Pop some butter into a pan over medium heat, then toss in the apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Let it all cook while stirring for 5–7 minutes until the apples soften up. Stir in the cornstarch and water mix, cooking until it thickens. Take it off the heat, stir in vanilla, and let it cool down a bit.
02 - Whip powdered sugar into softened cream cheese in a bowl until it’s velvety smooth. Set it aside for later.
03 - Cut out 4–5 inch circles from the pie dough. Drop in 1 tsp cheesecake filling and 1–2 tsp apple mix in the center. Fold them up, flatten the edges with a fork to seal, then brush on the beaten egg.
04 - Heat oil in a skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the pies a few at a time, flipping after 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown. Let them drain on paper towels, and if you'd like, dust them with sugar.
