Peppermint Cookies (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - Room-temp butter, unsalted (1 cup).
02 - 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar.
03 - 1 big egg.
04 - 1 spare egg yolk.
05 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
06 - 1 1/2 teaspoons peppermint flavoring.
07 - 3 2/3 cups plain flour.
08 - 2 big spoons cornstarch.
09 - 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder.
10 - 1 teaspoon kosher salt.
11 - Soft butter for frosting (1 cup).
12 - 3 cups powdered sugar.
13 - 1 teaspoon peppermint flavoring for frosting.
14 - 4 oz chilled cream cheese.
15 - Red food gel.
16 - Crushed candy canes for garnish.

# Instructions:

01 - Set oven to 350°F and whisk together dry stuff in a bowl.
02 - Mix butter with sugar till fluffy, toss in eggs and flavoring, then fold in the dry mix.
03 - Flatten dough to 1/2 inch thick, grab a 3-inch cutter to make rounds.
04 - Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes until puffed but still pale.
05 - Whip the butter, slowly add powdered sugar, blend in flavor, salt, and chilled cream cheese.
06 - Split frosting, dye two-thirds red, keep the rest plain white.
07 - Create red stars with piping, fill spaces with white, then sprinkle candy bits on top.
