Christmas Cookies Swirled (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - Room-temperature unsalted butter (1 cup / 226g).
02 - White sugar (1 1/4 cups / 250g).
03 - One large egg, at room temp.
04 - 2 teaspoons of almond flavoring.
05 - 1 teaspoon vanilla paste or liquid extract.
06 - All-purpose plain flour (3 cups / 390g).
07 - A teaspoon of cornstarch.
08 - Baking powder, 1 teaspoon.
09 - Fine-grain salt (1 teaspoon).
10 - Nonpareil sprinkles, any Christmas color (1 cup).
11 - Green coloring gel.
12 - Red coloring gel.

# Instructions:

01 - Whip together butter and sugar until it’s fluffy and pale.
02 - Stir in the egg, then mix in almond and vanilla until smooth.
03 - Stir in flour, cornstarch, salt, and baking powder without overdoing it.
04 - Split dough into 3 parts. Leave one natural, and use green or red on the others.
05 - Roll dough into thin sheets, stack them up, then roll tight into a spiral log.
06 - Coat the rolled-up log in sprinkles so they stick all over.
07 - Slice the log into pieces about 1/3 inch thick, then bake for 12–14 min at 350°F.

# Notes:

01 - Can be prepped ahead and stored in the freezer.
02 - Stick with gel colors for bolder shades.
03 - Chill dough to make it less sticky to handle.
